WALLASEY GOLF CLUB SENIOR SECTION

The Senior Section was founded in 1966. Originally for members over 60, it is now open to all members over 55. This age change has been introduced to be in line with all other clubs in our area. We are very active and hold competitions on most Mondays. These are played over twelve holes so if your legs get tired or you want to get back to the bar quickly, you are well catered for. We also have matches against other clubs and these are played over the full eighteen holes, as is the tradition with inter club matches. Home matches are played on our usual Monday morning. If you wish to play in a match, you are guaranteed a team place at some time, no matter what your standard of golf. We also have an annual match against Wallasey Ladies and you will find it most interesting, particularly the old tradition of “courtesy shots”. We have our own handicap system whereby you will receive additional strokes for your age, but your handicap will also be reduced if you win a competition, no matter what your score. Our section is open to all members of the club, so why wait? You will be made most welcome and you will find us a very friendly bunch. Just ask any senior member and he will point you in the right direction.

THE 2008 SENIOR SEASON

The opening competition for 2008 is on Monday 7th January. It takes the format of Flying Snooker, followed by lunch. Full details to be confirmed, so please enter your name on the list on the Senior Notice Board if you are interested.

On behalf of the Senior Section may we take this opportunity to wish Seasons Greetings to all members of Wallasey Golf Club, with hopes that 2008 will bring you too a ‘hole in one’.

SENIORS MATCHES 2008

Seniors V Chester Curzon Park

In 2007 the Senior Sections of Wallasey and Chester played each other at home and away with a view to filling a gap in their respective fixture lists from the 2008 season. Both matches went particularly well with Eric & Geoff Roberts of Wallasey being matched against Bryan Whitby & Eric Lee of Chester as one of the two investigating teams. Both sides enjoyed the others’ course and got on extremely well on a personal level. So well, in fact, fixtures have been confirmed for this year and we hope for the future. It was especially pleasing for the Senior Section of Wallasey to read Eric’s article in the April 2008 edition of GOLF MONTHLY, for whom he is a regular course review panellist, in which he included Wallasey in his list of the five best tracks that he has recently played.

Match Secretary Geoff Roberts would like members and visitors to note that:-

"At the end of this month our section commences the 2008 season of Inter-Club Matches, with Prenton being our first fixture, and I am sure another enjoyable season lies ahead. I am pleased to confirm we will continue with our “Shot Gun” start arrangement, as in previous years, and I will endeavour to allocate the 15th, 16th & 18th tee starts as fairly as I possibly can. Your committee, at our last meeting, raised the subject of the starting time for our post-match lunches. It was agreed we must be seated, ready to eat, by 1.45pm. This can be achieved provided we accept a match should take no longer than 4 hours. Therefore each team member is requested to ensure his match after 2 hours is at least at or past their 10th tee ready to play. Please note I refer to their 10th tee, not Tee number 10, which will only be applicable when starting on Tee No. 1."
