Lady Captain Alison Bluck is delighted to be welcoming the English Women’s Amateur Strokeplay to Wallasey Golf Club on the 16th – 19th August 2021.
On behalf of the members of Wallasey Golf Club I feel honoured as Lady Captain to be welcoming The English Women’s Amateur Strokeplay to our fine links in August.
Wallasey is proud of its heritage having hosted prestigious Men’s and Ladies championships in the past. I reflect on having had the pleasure of playing alongside two young upcoming golfers when we hosted the Women’s England Golf North Region in 2018. I now look forward to EG hosting this prestigious Amateur event so I can follow these and other young ladies on their golfing careers.
The course has been refined with subtle alterations over the last 24 months exposing more views across Liverpool Bay and to North Wales, all adding to an enjoyable yet rewarding experience on those windy days. I’m sure the Ladies will rise to the challenge.
Here at Wallasey we have a thriving ladies section with various golfing abilities. Our A’ Team are the current holders of ‘The Cheshire Shield’ and ‘The West Cheshire Shield’, this being the first time Wallasey Ladies have achieved both titles. We are a very competitive section, having knocked out Royal Birkdale to gain The Millennium Links Trophy in 2018, a unique competition having a team encompassing all handicaps. The strength of our ladies section has had an amazing impact on our mixed competitions with a number of men experiencing their first mixed golf.
Our junior section is going from strength to strength with 2 of our junior girls playing for Cheshire and one on the NW England development squad. In between the later lockdowns I had the pleasure of playing with both girls and saw how their games had developed in the last 12mths, as well as enjoying their company.
I now look forward to enjoying my Captaincy duties with all members and guests of Wallasey, embracing whatever obstacles 2021 brings.
