Wallasey GC receive Safegolf accreditation

Wallasey Golf Club is pleased to announce it has been accredited with the SafeGolf award (certificate attached) which is the standard for golf clubs throughout Britain and Europe with regard to Child and Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding and Protection. For more information, please visit: SafeGolf

Our application was put together by Dave Robinson, Club Welfare Officer, with support from Ben Johnson, England Golf’s Club Support Officer for Cheshire and Derbyshire. Whilst the club had our own Safeguarding Policy which had been in place for approximately 10 years, we have personalised the England Golf Safeguarding Policy to suit the needs of our club giving us the most up-to-date information and support moving forward.

Safeguarding and Protection is essential for golf clubs looking to present a safe and enjoyable environment for all members, visitors and staff within Wallasey Golf Club, with clear policies for monitoring and reporting issues and concerns for the appropriate authorities to investigate. Child Protection and Safeguarding is the largest section of our policy and sets out clear guidelines for the protection of children whilst at our golf club.

As Club Welfare Officer, Dave worked with Dave Huxley (Junior Organiser), Sue Robinson (Junior committee) as well as our 3 professionals, Mike Adams, Rob Cullen and Chris Ashcroft to ensure that all staff and volunteers were up-to-date with Safeguarding DBS Checks, as well as the relevant qualifications for working with Children in Golf. Everyone has completed a Safeguarding and Protecting Children course, which contains lots of relevant information tailored to encouraging their golf experience but also looking out for signs that there are no issues such as bullying and abuse of all kinds, either from within our club or from their personal lives, which may impact on their enjoyment of golf. Dave Robinson has also completed a Time To Listen course which gives training on the legal and social requirements of the role of Club Welfare Officer.

The accreditation also ensures that Wallasey is one of England Golf’s affiliated Clubs, a requirement from 2021, and also sees our 3 Professionals listed on England Golf's SafeGolf Accredited Coaches list.

Having this award makes Wallasey Golf Club a more attractive club for Junior Golfers to join, both for themselves and their parents, giving them confidence that Wallasey Golf Club is a safe environment for their Child.
